Safe Families Network
The Safe Families Network aims to raise awareness and educate people about domestic violence and its prevention.
The Network was formed more than 10 years ago in response to increasing levels of family violence in the Ashburton district. The Families Without Violence coordinator promotes the prevention and awareness of family violence within the Ashburton District community through various activities and campaigns such as the nationwide White Ribbon Day in November.
We develop resources to help victims and offenders access information and assistance. The Network also runs activities and events such as wellbeing and community workshops to promote awareness of family violence and create avenues for support. The coordinator brings agencies together to work collectively in reducing family violence in our district.
Family violence is becoming a topic that people are able to talk more openly about. However, it continues to be a significant issue in our community, and aiming to prevent family violence through promoting safe and healthy whānau is an important part of helping to end family violence in all its forms.
